| This song was inspired by a poem written by
the Cuban writer, Jose Marti. That poem has been popularised as the song
"Guantanamera". In writing this song I tried to remain
true to the spirit of Marti's poem. However, where I felt that his poem
spoke of the world as perceived at the end of the 19th century,
in terms of a conflict between rich and poor, I wanted to retain
the essence while presenting a new form which heralded an age of
cooperation and equality. An age of sufficiency. Hence the title.
In addition, this song is intended to be sung in the style of a
slow, celtic ballad. In 1996 this song was used by the Australian ABC as part of the soundtrack for a documentary entitled: "A Life - R. M. Williams". For more information on Jose Marti check josemarti.org (in spanish) |
